Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco are the stars of the new vampire hunting movie "Day Shift". The movie follows the story of a hard working blue collar dad who just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted daughter, but his mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income, hunting and killing vampires as part of an international Union of vampire hunters.
Although the premise sounds great, can J.J. Perry make it work?
The opening scene of the movie is a bonkers action sequence with Jamie Foxx shotgun blasting the hell out of an old lady who turns out to be a vampire. The two of them then have a wild fight that turns out to be a great time. I felt that the movie had a lot of fun using this type of ragdoll physicality in its action sequences, making them pop in ways that other Netflix action movies and blockbusters don't.
Day Shift, is the movie that makes you feel so bad you're actually enjoying it. It is obvious what they wanted to do but they failed so badly. The acting is poor, the dialogue is stilted and the plot is a mess. But somehow, I found myself enjoying it. Maybe it's because I'm a sucker for vampire movies, or maybe it's because I just enjoy watching bad movies. Day Shift was great. While it's not the best movie, it's great fun. This is all I expect from a movie like that.
Day Shift was an interesting movie. While there were some good action scenes, and some interesting characters (the two brothers, Seth), the villain was terrible, and there were a lot mediocre characters. I suppose that helps the more talented characters shine. It seemed like there were missing scenes that were not cut. Bud's neighbor acts almost like they're close friends, even though only three minutes were available before the last scene. Bud started making prank phone call after she got to work at the gas station. This was the best part of the movie. It was hilarious and I enjoyed watching it. Then, however, the movie went on and the movie was far less enjoyable. Day Shift has a mixed record. There are parts that are fantastic and (just updated) others that are horrible. You could find a better movie if you are looking for some laughs.
Snoop Dogg is the star of the movie. Snoop Dogg is simply a great guy. He's the epitome cool.
